My external speakers stopped working. I checked them out on another pc and they work fine.
I did a windows diagnostic trouble shoot and found a 'Problem detected with Intel (R) ICH9 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller 293c. Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43). Thanks Kick for the instructions. I did it, both drivers, my pc went into safe mode directly after I did the display driver so I restarted and it came back to normal. I won't know how the display was affected unless it goes black again but I thinkyou are right I probably overloaded the system at some point.The usb is another matter though.

I tried the external speakers but they just won't work. I am using Win 7 Starter so whether or not that makes a difference I don't know. However the speakers works on my identical Acer pc my wife uses but her pc uses Win 7 Ultimate. Hi Dave,Check to see if any other usb devices function on the suspect usb port - if nothing else works then, as you say, you probably have a hardware problem.The next logical step would be to try the speakers in another usb port if you have a spare (I believe there are 3 usb2 ports on your model) - if you haven't got a spare, then a usb hub may help by allowing a port to be shared. If your speakers have their own power supply the hub should work but if the speakers take their power from the usb directly, you may need a hub with its own power supply.Repairing the problematic usb port may be an option but probably not viable if an electronic component has failed - if the problem is caused by physical damage within the socket (e.g. A bent pin or such like), you may be able to rectify that yourself so have a close look and compare the socket with a known good one.
(Make sure the computer is not powered up before probing - you don't want to short out anything.)I hope you get it sorted. Regards, Kick.
